I had bought him in 2001 to be my breeding buck. I thought he would make spotted kids with our black and white spotted doe Dot. They produced a white doeling Iggy, a white buckling Kasper and a gorgeous buckskin buckling Jake. As I didn’t get the spots I was hoping for I had Gung wethered with anesthesia and kept him. He was a very nice goat with a lovely white beard. He was always friendly but not obtrusively so (like some of my goats). He was laid back and a beautiful animal. I am going to miss him.
Tribute to Gung Ho
Yesterday Gung Ho died. He had diarrhea last week, and I treated him. It was getting better, but then yesterday morning we found him laying around more and not interested in hay. He did eat a couple of animal crackers. His exam was normal except he had become suddenly anemic- he wasn’t the day before. I treated him for infection and worms, but by 10 AM he had died. I had thought about bringing him to the vet but, of course, I had to get to work. I don’t think it would have helped so I don’t need to feel guilty about that, but I can feel guilty that I hadn’t the week before and that he died without me petting him. He didn’t seem to be in any pain, but I’m sure he wasn’t feeling well.
