Oreo

Oreo, one of our llamas, died last night.  We bought him in 2009 as  a pack llama.  We were not sure of his age.  As you can tell, he is a pretty boy.  We took walks to practice hiking.

And then went on trips build up his stamina on longer day hikes.

He, like all our llamas, did not like to be shearing and did not like his toes trimmed.  But he was better behaved than other llamas we have had.  He never spit nor kicked.

We took him on a strenuous hike in 2010, and he did not do that well.  After that he has appeared older and skinnier.  We have been pampering him with extra food and shelter, but last night he could no longer stand up.  He was a good llama and will be missed.  And my dreams of hiking with a pack llama die with him as well.

So sorry for your loss. The top picture shows a very happy llama. I’m sure he felt he’d won the llama lottery when he came to live with you.

Very sorry Donna. We have a 2 year old guard Llama and she is a wonderful animal.

Thanks Jody! We still have one guard llama who has been with us 6 years and another pack now guard llama who got when we purchased Oreo. I think llamas can be great guard animals and are regal to look at. They are not cuddly in my experience and can be a little bit of a challenge to take care of. I cannot imagine our farm without them.

I’m sorry, Donna. Each of our critters works their way into our hearts, and it hurts to lose them.

I am so sorry. He must have been much older and I am glad he got to enjoy his final years with you.
