Ode to the Codester

We had to put down our first buck Cody today.  His given name was Luck of the Draw, but we quickly called him Wild Bill Cody because of his behaviors.  He was tough to catch and could jump almost every fence and gate we have.  There were a lot of unplanned pregnancies because of the Codester.  But we loved him tremendously.  He has been thin for the past two years,  We have been babying him with extra food, shelter and medications, but today he could not stand up and his breathing was erratic.  It was time to say goodbye.

Twelve of our 20 remaining goats have his blood in them.  He also produced 39 kids that we sold ( Oz, Hickory, Nugget, Otis, ChocoDot, Peanut, Pablo, Pandora, Tootsie, Zotz, Pixy, Snickers, Mars, Cora, Jumping Jack Flash, Lady Jane, Ruby Tuesday, Malcolm, Marley, Queenie, Johnny, Beethoven, Nutmeg, Sandalwood, Zeus, Athena, Phoebe, Dove, Sparrow, Esmerelda, ggoorrsstt, Frple, Oogachugga, Swami, Sally, Sammy, Topaz, Opal and Jade.  He also produced countless kids through does that we brought here to be bred.  So he lives on through these gorgeous goats continuing his legacy.

Oh Donna, so sorry. We have some of his off spring and just so you know his first kid with us took champion ribbons three years in a row at the NW Fair in Lynden.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It’s tough especially when they have been around awhile, and are characters. How old was he? He was a lucky buck anyway you look at it! Sounds like he had an exciting life and people that cared about him.

Thanks Tammy! He was a very endearing character all right. He was 10 years old. I hope he had a good life with us. He certainly had a lot of doefriends.

He was a lucky guy to have landed at your place, Donna – and under your care. At least he left his genetics with you and others to enjoy as well.
He sounds like he was a real character with an definite lust for life.
I am sorry for your loss.

Thanks Kathy! I naturally worry about what I could have done better to make him live longer. He had a great buck life though with lots of dates. I just miss him and his antics.
