Here is the view first thing in the morning- the pigs basking in the sun. The weather has turned nice here again after some vicious storms. And all the critters are enjoying it.
The roosters will be butchered this Sunday so I am comparing the different breeds to determine which did the best. Here is what I thought we started with: 6 Dark Cornish, 3 Lt. Brahmas, 3 Buff and 3 White Orpingtons; 3 New Hampshire, 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Barred Rocks, and 3 Sussex. The Barred Rocks, 2 of the Sussex and 2 of the Light Brahmas did not make it after being put out free range. The remaining Sussex has a bad knee and the Light Brahma may be a hen (see photo below). The Dark Cornish have done quite well with nice breast development, and the white roosters (that I now believe are Rocks rather than Orpingtons) are huge. The red roosters (Rhode Island and New Hampshire) did OK and the Buff Orpingtons are rather small.
Even Tom stopped briefly to enjoy the sunshine today.
