Lambs!

Maybelle Carter trying to stand for first time

Tanya Tucker, our Gotland Finn ewe who was bred to our Shetland ram Lewis, finally lambed this morning.  Above is her first lamb Maybelle Carter trying to stand for the first time.  Below the second lamb Tammy Wynette is just born, and Maybelle is figuring out how to nurse.

They are both variations of HST in the Shetland world, but Wynette is more spotted and Maybelle is more classic HST.  Here is Wynette getting licked still.

And here she is just being cute.

The plan was to raise these lambs for meat.  But Tom and I have already determined they are way too cute for that.  So much for being tough farmers.  So if a previous reliable sheep purchaser would like one of them we would be willing to sell her as a fiber animal.  Otherwise we will keep them ourselves.  So congratulations Tanya and Lewis, and happy birthday to Maybelle and Wynette!

Wonderful! All babies and mamas should be born knowing how to nurse!

Hi Denise! I was thinking of you when I commented about the reliable previous sheep purchasers. One of them would certainly have different wool than your current sheep. And only $100! Gotlands tend to be friendlier than the average Shetland too (Diddley being an exception).

They are so cute! I’ve felt the same way about eating some of our goats. Then they grow up to become real pains in the patoot. Very easy to change your mind then, LOL
