Bluesie Gets New Doors

So Bluesie the Floosie, our 1976 Dodge Camper van, got some new doors yesterday. Tom found them on 1988 and 1991 vans in a junk yard in Anacortes.  He had to do some modifications on the side door toward the back but now they fit great.

Next he will paint them sky blue and antique white to somewhat match the rest of the van.  He will put wood panels on the inside to match the interior too.

The old doors really needed to be replaced.  They were getting pretty rusty, especially on the bottoms.

But in the process we are losing the stickers that were on the rear doors’ windows.  The windows are not the same size so we cannot just swap the windows.

There is still a small amount of rust behind the rear wheels.

And behind the front wheels.  The driver and passenger doors need replacing too but they are much easier to find.

We will keep Bluesie going as long as we can.  The new doors will go a long way to making that happen.

In other news, Steve appears to like it here.

That’s really great that you’re able to fix up your Bluesie! Do you have a lot of miles on it? I’m guessing that with all those stickers, you’ve gone a lot of places with that old camper. We used to have a ’79 Dodge van that was the extra long type. We loved it and hauled a lot of kids around in it. It had lots of seating, and we could fold them down and turn the seats into a queen-sized bed, or turn the front one toward the back and set up the table that came with it. We used it for camping for a while. Ours was named Bruce. We didn’t have the extended rooftop, though. And had to cook outside, but we took Bruce camping.

It’s so good to see Steve being such a happy guy!

Thanks Jeanne! We love our camper van. I inherited form my grandfather. It has just a little over 100K on her. A lot of those places Bluesie did not go to. She is not terribly reliable. Stranded us in the Canadian Okanogan once. The farther we went with her was Southern Oregon. We definitely cook in ours but we also have a barbecue outside too. Glad you enjoy Steve’s happiness. Hopefully he will get to go on trips in Bluesie this year.
